Motivational Speeches
Taking on this role improves critical thinking, confidence and public speaking skills. Every speaker is a role model, and all speakers learn from one another's speeches, growing and improving their own skills in the process. As a speaker, you prepare, rehearse and present an original speech during the meeting that will then be evaluated by an evaluator. Each speech should be about 4-6 minutes long.
Audition : You must prepare a 4-6 minute motivational speech on "story-telling related topic". Less than 4 minutes for more than 6.5 minutes will be disqualified. You have choice of in-person audition (6/24) or send your 'unlisted' youtube video link (by 6/20).
Grading : You will be graded on four categories:
Effectiveness (25%), Body Language (25%), Organization (25%) and Appropriateness (25%)
*This is a very high level speech and we absolutely do not expect you guys to speak at this level yet but notice how she uses vocal variety, hand gestures and anecdotes to make this speech entertaining/motivational for the audience.
Spontaneous Speeches
Taking on this role improves confidence and impromptu speaking skills. Table topics are intended to help members develop their ability to organize their thoughts quickly and respond to an impromptu question. Those who do table topics will be given a random question that they must answer with little preparation. Your response should express your thoughts clearly, lasting 1-2 minutes.
Audition : You will be given a question that you must answer on the spot. Your response should be about 1-2 minutes. No preparation is needed beforehand but make sure to answer/address all parts of the question clearly. You have choice of in-person or virtual audition on 6/24.
Grading : You will be graded on four categories: Speech Development (25%), Body Language (25%), Organization (25%) and Appropriateness (25%)
*Notice how the table topic speaker automatically begins talking after given the question. You will have a few seconds to prepare but this really tests your impromptu speaking skills and how well you can speak on the spot.
You may audition for the role of Motivational Speeches or Spontaneous Speeches
